  Position Summary

  The Supermarket Branch Manager is responsible for the overall daily operations, financial performance, customer experience, and team leadership of the assigned supermarket branch. This role focuses on driving sales revenue, controlling shrinkage/waste, managing inventory flow, ensuring strict compliance with health and safety standards, and leading a multi-department retail team to deliver operational excellence.

   

  Key Responsibilities

  1. Branch Sales & Financial Performance

• Achieve and exceed branch sales targets, gross profit margins, and overall profitability (P&L responsibility).
• Analyze daily/weekly/monthly sales performance, track product velocity, and implement strategies to boost basket size and customer footfall.
• Monitor and manage operational budgets, labor costs (payroll/overtime), and store controllable expenses (utilities, supplies, maintenance).

  2. Daily Store Operations & Merchandising

• Oversee day-to-day branch operations, including opening/closing routines, cash handling, and point-of-sale (POS) systems management.
• Ensure proper visual merchandising, floor layouts, promotional end-cap displays, and price tag accuracy according to company standards.
• Conduct regular floor walk-throughs to verify product availability, cleanliness, aisle accessibility, and shelf-replenishment standards.

  3. Inventory Management & Loss Prevention

• Supervise inventory ordering, receiving, stocking, and cycle counting to prevent stock-outs and overstocking.

• Implement strict inventory control measures to minimize shrinkage, theft, damage, and product expiration (FEFO/FIFO rotation, especially in fresh food sections).
• Coordinate with external suppliers and central warehouse logistics for timely delivery and stock replenishment.

•  

  4. Team Leadership, Staffing & HR Management

• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise supermarket department heads, supervisors, cashiers, and floor staff.
• Establish work schedules, shift rotations, and task assignments to optimize productivity during peak shopping hours.
• Evaluate employee performance, provide ongoing coaching, resolve internal grievances, and foster a positive working environment.

• 5. Customer Service Excellence

• Maintain high standards of customer service across all touchpoints (checkout lines, fresh counters, customer service desk).
• Efficiently handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints to ensure customer retention and brand loyalty.
• Oversee local community outreach, seasonal campaigns, and in-store marketing promotions.

  6. Regulatory Compliance, Health & Food Safety

• Ensure strict adherence to municipal health and safety guidelines, fire safety, food hygiene regulations, and labor laws.
• Oversee cold-chain maintenance (chillers, freezers) and sanitation routines across all fresh produce, meat, and dairy sections.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Sales & Revenue Targets: Monthly and annual revenue vs. budget achievement.
• Shrinkage & Waste Rate: Percentage of inventory lost due to spoilage, expiration, or theft.
• Store Payroll/OPEX Ratio: Maintaining staffing and operating expenses within budgeted limits.
• Customer Satisfaction Score: Customer feedback ratings and average resolution time for complaints.
• Audit & Health Compliance: Pass rates on internal operational audits, food safety checks, and regulatory inspections.

•  

• 2–3+ years in supermarket operations, with at least 2 years in a managerial or assistant branch manager role.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Retail Operations, or a related field.
• Proficiency in Point of Sale (POS) systems, retail ERP/inventory databases, and store analytics platforms.
• Deep understanding of perishable goods management, cold chain integrity, shrinkage control, and visual merchandising.
