The British School Yangon opened in August 2014, offering high-quality international education to students in Early Years, Primary, and Secondary up to Year 10; with provisions to expand year on year. Through quality learning in both academia and whole person enrichment, children are given opportunities to develop in all areas of life.
When we interviewed Ms. Tor Del Federico, Principal of The British School Yangon, about what The British School Yangon is doing in HR to support employees, she focused her response on the programs available to help taking staff’s career progression and direction to the next level. She also mentioned a proprietary online performance review system, which tremendously helps both teachers and administrators in the organization to set forward-looking objectives and goals, and to track performance at midyear and end of the year to encourage an ongoing cycle of continuous professional development. This benefits both the organization by adding business value in terms of what employees can accomplish while working at British School Yangon, and can be the key to the development of personal skills that will further the employee's pursuit of individual career goals that they can put into their work at the School.
The first-year principal also said “When you join Nord Anglia, whether it is here in Yangon or anywhere else; you become not just part of the school but part of a team of the people who are working together for the best possible outcome for everybody. I think that is the most outstanding thing that I have noticed, is you are not just an individual and you are simply part of the team, regardless of your position in the school.”
Ms. Del Federico also mentioned “JobNet has been phenomenal for us. When we were recruiting for a local post we were struggling to find two or three high-calibre candidates. It has changed that now we are getting 20 to 30 applications for a local position.” She also mentioned that in addition, the quality, as well as the quantity of candidates BSY is receiving for each position, has vastly improved.
As British School Yangon was a Gold Sponsor for 2019 MEA, they were looking forward to meeting with other like-minded business professionals and community at the glamourous 7th December Awards Gala Night. They particularly note that this Award Night was a rare chance to network and open up opportunities for its students for current or future work experiences and placements, something that the School was keen on building for the betterment and advancement of their students.
