You might know the name.
Founded in 1993, Yoma Bank is Myanmar's most progressive domestic bank with over 3,000 employees and more than eighty branches across the country. Over the past few years, Yoma Bank has made significant investments in strategic priorities - people, technology, and corporate governance.
We interviewed Yoma Bank’s Chief Human Resources Officer Ma Mi Mi Thet regarding effective HR practices in recruiting, developing, and retaining employees. In this enlightening interview, she said: “What retains our staff is our performance culture. We have a really high-performance culture and our performance scores are linked to the bonus payment as well as career development. In this manner, our policy is to recruit from within whenever possible if there's is a new opening; internal staff will be given preference, as we have seen many of the senior staff has reached their current positions from advancing within the Bank.” She also highlighted that the organization which has a high-performance culture can stay ahead of the competition; because a community of hard workers encourages team members to be the best they can be every day.
As Yoma Bank was the proud Main Sponsor of the Myanmar Employer Awards 2019 and Ma Mi Mi Thet also the Winner of 2018 HR Director of The Year, we asked her what the MEA platform means for her and for HR Professionals. She said: “I am overwhelmed about the HR Director of the year award from the Myanmar Employer Awards as most HR people do the work behind the scenes and we cannot quantify our achievements, and we do not frequently get to showcase ourselves. I am really grateful for JobNet for giving us this opportunity, and even in Yoma Bank’s recruitment it is a selling point for our organization.”
The Myanmar Employer Awards promote advances and excellence across HR and human capital management. By celebrating companies in Myanmar who are committed to providing an enriching work environment for their employees, the MEA comes together once a year to establish benchmarks in the industry and mark the progress that continues to be made year after year. Each December, the Myanmar Employer Awards along with its esteemed panel of judges looks forward to receiving the applications and assessing the health and development of the HR industry in Myanmar.
