General Manager (GM) – Job Description

Position Overview

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing the overall operations, strategic direction, and financial performance of the organization. This role ensures that business objectives are achieved efficiently while maintaining high standards of operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement business strategies aligned with company goals.

  • Identify growth opportunities and drive business expansion.

  • Monitor market trends, competitors, and industry developments.

2. Operations Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all departments.

  • Ensure operational efficiency, productivity, and quality standards.

  • Establish and enforce policies, procedures, and internal controls.

3. Financial Management

  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial planning.

  • Monitor financial performance and ensure profitability.

  • Approve major expenditures and optimize cost efficiency.

4. Team Leadership & HR Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and develop department heads and employees.

  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, and staff development.

  • Foster a positive and high-performance organizational culture.

5. Sales & Business Development

  • Drive revenue growth and achieve sales targets.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key clients and stakeholders.

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities.

6. Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key point of contact for investors, partners, and stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present reports to senior leadership or board members.

7. Risk & Compliance Management

  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company policies.

  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.

KPIs / Performance Indicators

  • Revenue growth and profitability

  • Operational efficiency and cost control

  • Employee performance and retention

  • Customer satisfaction levels

  • Achievement of strategic objectives

Reporting Line

  • Reports to: CEO / Managing Director / Board of Directors

  • Direct Reports: Department Heads / Managers

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position

  • May require travel depending on business needs

Job Requirements

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field (MBA preferred).

  • Minimum 8–12 years of management experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role.

  • Proven experience in operations, financial management, and business development.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
