This position will be responsible for risk assessment and providing prompt and fair claims review while following the policies and guidelines of Daiichi Life Insurance Myanmar (DLMM). 

Underwriting responsibilities

  • To conduct risk assessments on applications for insurance, as well as establishing the appropriate coverage and premium to be charged, while keeping the company financially sound.
  • To communicate with related stakeholders (including customers, distribution/sales team, hospitals, co-workers, supervisors and other stakeholders as required) via email, phone and other methods.
  • To enquire and follow-up with accredited/contracted hospitals on cases with medical underwriting in conducting the various medical examinations and tests and the interpretation of certain medical reports.
  • To provide information (including data and statistics) regarding the local health care industry, which is needed for product development, to relevant company personnel.     
  • To help uphold DLMM’s firm commitment to professional excellence by applying best practices when performing underwriting on our customers, and to give fair risk assessment results.
  • To attend Underwriting and Claims Committee meetings and any other meetings internally or externally, as needed.
  • To give presentations or other training related to underwriting to colleagues (e.g., distribution/sales, officers from other divisions/departments, etc.)
  • To report the status of applications/policies on a weekly or monthly basis, as needed.
  • To perform monthly quality checking or audit of policies that went through Jet Underwriting.
  • To have a mindset of Kaizen - continuous improvement, and willing to sit for exams such as LOMA, ALU, ICA, etc.
  • To perform additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Claims responsibilities

  • To perform underwriting evaluations for post-issuance changes, such as Travelling Abroad, Reinstatements, and Group Business New Entrants/Renewal cases.
  • To carry out claims assessments for all products sold by DLMM and daily communication/reporting with Third Party Administrator for Health insurance claims.
  • To fully understand the customers’ requirements and align with respective Operations and Distribution teams for Underwriting, Reinstatements and Claims requests.
  • To ensure timely response and satisfactory resolution of matters requiring support of Claims function, particularly from Operations, Distribution/Sales, Hospitals, or other stakeholders.
  • To continually improve customer experience by gathering feedback from partners and customers and gauge their satisfaction level.  Strive for ‘Omotenashi’ service standards.
  • To understand the company’s Policy Provisions and products and be able to explain to customers.
  • To perform UAT for new products, functions and system bugs.
  • To conduct AML checks and when the result is positive, report to the manager for further process.
  • To have a mindset of Kaizen - continuous improvement, and willing to sit for exams such as LOMA, ALU, ICA, etc.
  • To perform additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements

  • Medical-related degree (Nursing, Medical Technology, Pharmacy, etc.)
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in medical science is preferred.
  • Work experience as an Underwriter and/or Claims Adjudicator in Life and/or Health Insurance is preferred.
  • Certifications in LOMA and ALU are an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both English and Myanmar.
  • Experience delivering client-focused solutions with a customer-centric mindset.
  • A sound knowledge of the local healthcare industry, including the availability of the various healthcare facilities and services, in both public as well as private healthcare sectors.
  • Strong in people skills (interpersonal relationships), communication skills, pro-business.
  • Fast learner and able to work with cross functional teams in a dynamic work environment.
  • Advanced knowledge for Microsoft tools, including Outlook, MS Teams, Excels, Power Point and other related systems for daily reporting and case processing.
