Job Description

An Exciting Opportunity for ...

We are seeking an IP NOC (Network Operations Center) Specialist focusing on International Gateway (IGW) operations plays a critical role in maintaining the backbone of an ISP's international connectivity. This position is needed to handle the massive traffic flow between local and international networks, and the responsibilities are more focused on high-capacity routing, peering, and external carrier coordination.

1. International Traffic & Peering Management

  • BGP Operations: Monitoring and managing Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) sessions with international upstream providers (Tier 1 carriers) and peering partners at Internet Exchange Points (IXPs).
  • Traffic Engineering: Optimizing traffic paths to ensure low latency and cost-effective routing using tools like BGP communities, local preference, and AS-Path prepending.
  • Capacity Planning: Monitoring link utilization (e.g., 10G/100G interfaces) and recommending upgrades before saturation impacts international service quality.

2. Network Surveillance & Fault Management

  • 24/7 Monitoring: Utilizing tools like SolarWinds, Cacti, Zabbix, or NetFlow to maintain real-time visibility into core IP nodes (e.g., Juniper MX series or Huawei Switches).
  • Incident Response: Serving as the first line of defense for international outages, fiber cuts (Submarine or Cross-border terrestrial), and hardware failures.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing complex L2/L3 issues, including MPLS label switching problems, packet loss on international segments, and DNS resolution issues.

3. Carrier & Vendor Coordination

  • Upstream Interaction: Opening and tracking trouble tickets with international carriers (e.g., Tata, NTT, Cogent) during circuit outages or performance degradation.
  • SLA Compliance: Ensuring that international transit and private leased circuits (DPLC/IPLC) meet the agreed-upon Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Remote Hands Coordination: Working with field engineers or data center staff for hardware replacements or physical cross-connects at landing stations or POPs.

4. Security & Performance Optimization

  • DDoS Mitigation: Identifying and mitigating distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting the gateway using scrubbing centers or RTBH (Remote Triggered Black Hole) filtering.
  • Quality of Service (QoS): Implementing and verifying QoS policies to prioritize critical traffic (like Voice over IP or financial data) over standard internet traffic.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Performing scheduled firmware/OS updates (e.g., Junos/IOS upgrades) and line card migrations to maintain security and stability.

5. Documentation & Reporting

  • Daily Health Checks: Generating reports on network availability, top-talkers, and latency metrics for senior management.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigating the "why" behind major outages and documenting preventative measures.
  • Network Mapping: Keeping IP address schemes, VLAN assignments, and physical topology diagrams up to date.
